What is a Frustosamine Test

The fructosamine test is a blood test that measures the average level of glucose in the blood over the past 2-3 weeks. More precisely, it measures the level of glycated proteins in the body. 

Compare to HbA1c

It is typically ordered along with a hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) test, which measures blood sugar control over a longer period of time (usually 2-3 months).

Procedure

The fructosamine test is usually done in a healtood sample is taken from a vein in the a healthcare provider's office or laboratory. A small blrm and sent to a laboratory for analysis

Results

A normal result for the fructosamine test is a level of 202-282 umol/L.

Fructosamine test is not typically used as a standalone diagnostic tool, but rather as a complement to other tests, such as the HbA1c test, to help assess blood sugar control and guide treatment decisions
