History

Dr A. Velumani founded Thyrocare in the year 1996. He is a doctorate in science and worked for 12 years in BARC. He used his experience at BARC to develop a low-cost Thyroid testing method.

During its initial years, Thyrocare was primarily focused on Thyroid testing. Later, it expanded its test menu to include NCD (Non-communicable disease) testing, mainly biochemistry.

Then, it expanded its preventive healthcare using the “Aarogyam” brand name.

Acquisition by Pharmeasy

In June 2021, Docon Technologies Pvt. Ltd, a unit of PharmEasy’s parent API Holdings Ltd acquired a controlling stake (66%) in Thyrocare technologies limited. Docon technologies plan to improve the digital experience of Thyrocare and integrate it with Phareasy to provide a comprehensive experience to the customers.

Thyrocare Test Menu

Thyrocare offers 288 tests and 120 profiles of tests to detect several disorders. The tests mainly focus on thyroid, growth, metabolism, auto-immunity, diabetes, anaemia, cardiovascular disease, infertility, and various infectious diseases.

Its tests include 54 profiles under its successful ‘Aarogyam’ brand, which offers patients a suite of wellness and preventive health care tests.

CPL (fully automated lab) at Navi Mumbai and 11 RPLs are the main testing centres for these tests and profiles.

11 RPLs (regional processing labs) are in New Delhi, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Bhopal, Mumbai, Patna, Pune and Bhubaneshwar.

COVID-19 Testing

Thyrocare was among the first private lab in India to get ICMR approval for COVID-19 testing. Later, it also got approval for a COVID-19 antibody test. As of Jan 2021, it can process more than 10000 samples for the COVID-19 RT-PCR test.

Website

Thyrocare also has a wellness website where you can book online. However, generally, the discounts are very limited. You can access the website here. You can book your test after login. If you had any bookings earlier, all of your details would be prefilled.

Thyrocare test reports

Test reports are usually available after 24-48 hours after sample collection. The reports are sent to your registered E-Mail ID. You will also receive an SMS notification once the reports are available.

You can also download your reports via the mobile app or the Thyrocare website. In addition to this, reports can also be arranged from the booking platform in case of any difficulty.

Thyrocare Reviews

Thyrocare has mixed reviews from users. It is a NABL, CAP & ISO certified lab with exhaustive quality control. Thus a user can be sure about the accuracy of the reports. However, there are a few complaints mainly related to

• The technician has not reached on time: Extra safety protocols due to COVID has increased the time spent per customer. However, Thyrocare is hiring more technicians for improvement.
• Reports getting delayed: More than 99% of users get their reports within 48 hours. But, sometimes, due to logistics limitations, reports do get delayed. Thyrocare is adding more regional processing labs to improve the TAT of reporting.
